The Picts are small human looking nature spirits. Like wood nymphs or dryads, they seem to birth in concentrations of foliage, in particular groves of trees. Picts are similar in size and proportion to human children; and often grown Picts look very much like a child between 11 and 14 years old. The adult Pict’s face looks a little too old for the body, though always immature by human standards. The eyes shimmer like opals in the sun, and the common belief is that you can determine a Picts mood by watching the patterns in their eyes. Many a human has lost hours gazing thusly to the immense amusement of the Pits.
Their skin and hair resembles woody foliage or shrubbery, smoothed slightly, and the shades and textures will slowly shift to resemble the predominate foliage nearby. Foliage and leafy colors appear predominately in the hair while the colors of bark, stems and fruit flesh show in the skin.
Playing a Pict
By nature Picts are positive, well meaning and good hearted. They can also be selfish, petty, shallow, forgetful, oblivious, infuriating, and charming. Often referred to by other races as “big children” Pics rarely lose their sense of humor, although occasionally pouty when the joke is on them . Thankfully they also have trouble holding a grudge for more than a few minutes since their attention is easily diverted.
Although most comfortable in the woodlands, Picts can also thrive in the countryside although large citys with no greenspace make then a little nervous, although it’s hard to tell since any stress is transferred into even more enthusiasm and unpredictable behavior. Staying too long away from growing things however will begin to give their skin a brownish cast and bring with it lethargy and grumpiness.
